PORTALS Traveling Showcase - Los Angeles, CA

To the west coast we go for the next PORTALS Traveling Showcase. The outdoor party featuring 10 PORTALS adored artists will go down on Saturday June 2nd in a courtyard in the epicenter of Hollywood.
With a debut live set from Mister Lies, a TV Girl performance just after the release of their full-length record, Slow Magic‘s first ever LA gig, and performances by 7 others who have made So Cal music noteworthy, the day in California sun isn’t to be missed. In true LA fashion, there will be a taco cookout, liquid comfort, and a showering of PORTALS merch and giveaways. We’ve shown you why we love Denver, Austin, and Orlando, but now it’s time we show you why we love LA. And to share with you the artists of the festivities, our June monthly mixture will feature fresh sounds from a number of the artists performing.
Come make PORTALS LA your own.

Dream Panther - Dorsey’s High

Past tense sounds compose “Dorsey’s High”, the first we hear of LA’s Dream Panther, with their EP Beyonce’s Child soon to arrive.
Rebellion seems so giant-like, bloated with not thought through guilt, the guilt spills in fear of being spilt. Spilt guilt swindles the charm of rebellion, and what’s dwells is the mild, bashful, intimidated by being intimidating, looped high. Which is dishonestly entitled high.
Mirror Lady - Roman Candles

The gray and ashy ones licked up the color spree like it was the Fourth of July - they blinked their beating bee eyes into the mirror white as the eye. They are mirror ladies and gents, who don’t get that the mirroring of tangerine highs and strawberry blushes, is white. Mirror Lady are LA based creators.
The color screens go faster and faster, turn up upon each other, around the necks of sweetness, touching and melting, falling like blessings. The color curtains peeling and bleeding, the shadeless socket of the scene seemed so cold and so numb. The ashy tongued and the gray handed were licking up the color screens like it was the Fourth of July - until they blinked and it was all white as the eye.
Inc. - Swear

Captivating is the constrain, alluringly subdue though similarly arousing. Stripped synths swim with smooth vocals. Lean into those magnetizing murmurs, you’ll want to. Inc. (formerly Teen Inc.) is comprised of the LA based Aged brothers whose next EP will be out on July 25th via 4AD.
Sleazy, sweltering, the walls oozed with the a grimy smell as raunchy as it was repulsive. Succulent is the taste of restraint. My back sticks to the leather of the booth. I’m dazed, disoriented, and the sweat feels sumptuous, smooth, entirely entrancing. Nowhere else would sweat soak so swiftly, so sweetly would it simmer on my skin. Nowhere else would the dingy dim lighting, that makes all hours feel like night, suggest such sensuosity. Stimulated I am by the erotic reek of displacement. Mesmerizing is the seduction of pretend eternity.
Chelsea Wolfe - The Wasteland

Frantic fractured fright. What we are fearful of fluently suppresses sanity. Deliriously, synths sing with the deranged sleekness in the vocals. It is not dark, but rather sly and equally apprehensive. Cathartic introspective tracks, of doom and desire. Chelsea Wolfe is an LA artist who’s upcoming LP Ἀποκάλυψις (pronounced “apokalypsis”)is coming out on August 23rd via Pendu Sound. Find more here.
The fear of the dark is most common in young children. Those with flourishing fantasies or amplified artistry are those most exposed. Susceptive to the sense that something sinister is out of sight. The child seeks to see, as the sadistic sensibility is embellished when believed. I knew a child who’d peel his eyes open so long at night. His fingers pulled his eyelids until red around. He began to believe in the revert of sensory. In such fantasy, more elaborate, than a deceptive dream, he even believed he could see even when he blinked. Nothing would obstruct his sight, until adolescence impeded upon his immunity.

The LA indie music scene is rapidly growing, “in midst of a renaissance for indie music”. As major labels continue to suffer through the quickly-changing music industry, indie labels have been thriving at their expense. These indie labels are the ones that will continue to thrive, having the capability to evolve with the industry that major labels seem to be less capable of. These 12 labels are incredibly deserving of their successes as are their artists.
